Congratulations to Capt. John Herron of Margate, NJ, the winner of a brand new Yamaha F200 In-Line Four valued at over $19,000. Capt. John’s name was drawn from the bin during the awards ceremony at the 34th Annual South Jersey Shark Tournament on June 7th at South Jersey Marina in Cape May.
A limited run of just 200 tickets were sold for this special drawing, in which the folks at Yamaha donated an F200 four-stroke to tournament organizers to help raise money for the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) and America’s right to fish.
“Thanks to everyone who supported RFA through this special event, even if you didn’t win the new Yamaha you still win in terms of our efforts to keep you fishing,” said RFA executive director Jim Donofrio.
Capt. John runs a back bay fishing charter boat called the Keeper out of Margate which he says is ready for new power. “Every four years I get two new engines from Corky Campbell, always Yamahas,” said Captain John. “This is the year I’m supposed to get new engines, so this should work out perfectly.”
An active RFA member and supporter, Capt. John also keeps a Regulator down in Key West for the offseason fishing, and said Yamaha engines are on that stern as well. He said he easily puts 3,000 hours on his engines before he sells them, and the new owners typically add another 3,000 hours on them which he says “these engines are just unstoppable.”
RFA congratulates Capt. John on his big win, and reminds coastal anglers that there are plenty of outstanding tournament fishing coming up this season in support of your right to fish.
“There are several fishing tournaments scheduled this summer that support the RFA, and we encourage anglers to get into the action,” said Donofrio. “And next year, keep an eye on the Yamaha engine giveaway at South Jersey Marina, $100 for a 100-1 shot at 3,000 hours of outstanding fishing, not bad.”
