NEW NJ TOURNEY RAISES MONEY FOR SCIENCE

RFA Calls Jersey Beach N’ Boat Challenge a “Win Win” For 2013

April 22, 2013 – The Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) and RFA-NJ chapter are proud to be partnering with organizers at the Jersey Shore Beach N Boat Fishing Tournament.  Launched this month, this season-long, inshore competition will run through November 30 and offers cash prizes in multiple fish categories including striped bass, fluke, bluefish, black drum, weakfish, kingfish, black sea bass and tautog.

“There is nothing like this in New Jersey. It is so affordable and convenient that anyone can sign-up and win,” said Capt. Michael Young, Tournament Director. “The mission is to see who catches the largest fish in New Jersey, whether it be the seasoned professional or the little girl or boy who just happens to be vacationing and throws a line from the beach or in the bay.”

Entry fee is just $20, with tournament boundaries being the marine waters from the Raritan Bay to Delaware Bay within 20 miles of the shoreline. Fish must be caught in New Jersey waters, and weigh-in is at any of the participating bait and tackle shops throughout New Jersey which can be found at www.BeachNBoat.com.

The Jersey Shore Beach N Boat Fishing Tournament will also be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Fisheries Conservation Trust (FCT), a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization created to help identify and explore issues of concern to the conservation, development and wise utilization of coastal fisheries resources.  “We are delighted that the Jersey Shore Beach N Boat recognizes the need and is donating proceeds to this important cause,” said RFA executive director Jim Donofrio.

“It would be nice to see a good turnout for this first-year tournament, it’s good to get more anglers involved earlier this season and the idea that funding can be directed back into the scientific side of fisheries management makes it a win-win for everyone,” Donofrio said.

Capt. Mike Young said sponsorship and advertising is taking off, and more and more tackle shops are jumping aboard everyday as weigh stations for the contest.  Anyone interested should contact the tournament directors via email at info@beachnboat.com or online at www.BeachNBoat.com.

The Jersey Shore Beach N Boat Fishing Tournament is supported in part by a grant from the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism.
